President John Dramani Mahama has assured residents of the Bono Region that eight major roads have been earmarked for redevelopment under the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Big Push infrastructure programme, with firm financial backing to guarantee timely payments to contractors.

Addressing supporters and traditional leaders during his ‘Thank You’ tour in Sunyani, the first gentleman of the land, President Mahama listed the roads and highlighted the government’s readiness to deliver them without delays.

He said, “Critical projects like the Outer Ring Roads, Alaska–Catholic University, Berekum–Sampa, Sampa–Wenchi, Odumase–Badu, Kyeremasu–Gambia No.1 and 2, Sunyani–Techiman, Sunyani–Kumasi have all been captured for massive redevelopment.”

“These roads have been captured under our Big Push infrastructure programme and I am happy to inform you that the Ministry of Finance has made adequate financial provision for these roads.” President Mahama emphasised that prompt payment for work done had been secured to avoid delays in execution.

“Indeed, the Minister of Finance has told me to tell you that funding will not be an excuse. Every contractor who will be working under the Big Push—when he raises a certificate for payment—within two weeks, he will receive his money,” he said.

“So if any contractor is not working, it is not because he hasn’t been paid. It is because of something else and so you must find out why the contractor is not working.” The President assured that the roads would be completed to high standards.

“We will not only complete these roads but we will ensure that they are completed with quality, durability and timely delivery. “These roads are technical for agriculture, trade, health access and the daily lives of our people,” he added.
