The Ghana Drunkards Association Petitions Government To Reduce Prices Of Alcoholic Beverages

The Ghana Drunkards Association has served the government with a three-week ultimatum demanding the reduction in prices of alcoholic beverages.

In a video sighted by blackghana.com, the group cited the appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against the U.S. dollar as a major factor for the reduction of prices of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

In a statement, spokesperson for the group argued that, despite the cedi gains, alcohol prices still remain high. He noted that this high price places unfair burden on its members as well as other consumers.

According to him, with over 16 million members nationwide, failure of the government to address their concerns could lead to a mass nationwide protest.

The Association insists that just like food and fuel, alcohol is a basic necessity for its members and therefore should not be priced beyond reach. As of this writing, government officials are yet to respond to their concerns.
