The Vice-Chancellor of the Catholic University of Ghana, Professor Daniels Obeng-Ofori, has called on private universities to give priority to the development of sports infrastructure.

He said sports plays a key role in promoting peace, unity, and social development and should not be overlooked in private tertiary institutions. Prof Obeng-Ofori made the call at the opening of the 2025 Private Universities Students Association of Ghana (PUSAG) Games at Fiapre in the Sunyani West Municipality.

The event, hosted by the Catholic University, is the 16th edition of the annual games and runs from Monday to Friday on the theme: “Empowering Unity and Youth Development through Sports.” The Vice-Chancellor said the PUSAG Games is an opportunity to encourage private universities to invest in sports facilities and urged more institutions to participate in future events.

Participating schools in this year’s tournament include Nduom University of Business and Technology, Methodist University, KAAF University, Garden City University, Presbyterian University, Evangelical Presbyterian University, and the host, Catholic University. The universities are competing in football, basketball, volleyball, and various indoor games.
