President Mahama has announced that the Bono Region will soon benefit from a new cashew processing factory, as part of government’s efforts to industrialize agriculture and strengthen local economies.

He said the project, to be developed in partnership with the private sector, is aimed at creating jobs, adding value to raw cashew, and retaining more wealth within producing regions.

“We are partnering with the private sector to build a cashew processing factory right here in Bono,” President Mahama said. “By processing our cashew locally, we can create jobs, add value and keep more of the wealth within our region.” He made the announcement during his ‘Thank You’ tour in the region.

President Mahama also reaffirmed government’s commitment to establish the long-awaited Cashew Development Board, which will oversee pricing, regulation, market access, processing, and research in the cashew sector.

“Our government will still go ahead and establish the long-awaited Cashew Development Board. This Board will oversee pricing, regulation, market access, processing and research in order to give our farmers the break that they deserve,” he stated.

He further disclosed that government is rolling out a regional industrialisation programme focusing on light manufacturing and agro-processing. “This is in line with our 24-hour economy initiative, which seeks to create more jobs, improve productivity and stimulate local business growth,” the President added.
